Kochi

Kochi is the most vibrant city in Kerala and the state’s business capital. Situated in the south-western coast of India, Kochi is branded as the Queen of Arabian Sea due to the prominence of Cochin port since the colonial era. From time immemorial, the Arabs, British, Romans, Chinese, Dutch, and Portuguese have left their marks in the development of a Kochite culture. This mark is still visible, making it a cosmopolitan city.   The present day Kochi is an extended metropolitan region in Ernakulam district spanning an area of 94.88 square kilometres. The up-market area of the town is called Ernakulam. Over the last two decades, the geography of the city has drastically changed but still Kochi retains its innate greenness and charm with tourists round the year. For tourists, Kochi is referred as “The Gateway to Kerala”. The country’s first and only international marina is in Kochi which makes the city one of the top water tourism destinations in the world.   Despite many fast-paced changes, Kochi still has not lost its charm. Museums, cultural centres, pristine beaches and places of worships preserve its history and culture. And moreover, Kochi is the shopper’s hub of Kerala.
